| | If you are behind a router and have problems that the port forwarding has not fixed then check to see if you can set up your 360 to get a direct public IP. This should be totally different from the IP address that the router hands out. Had open NAT settings both before and after so that isn't always a sign that everything is okay. I had problems with COD 3 and the same Problems with COD 4 beta when trying to join specific games, this fix has sorted all that.

| | i'm also having problems with connecting to live. i've just changed my router to a Belkin N1, my laptop auto detected first time no problem, but my e-mail account only connects after two or three attempts. when i turn on the 360 it auto signs in and it shows how many friends are on line, but when i run the network connection test it fails to connect to live, all the other settings pass, which i don't understand as like i said when i first boot up it auto connects! once in a blue moon it passes all the tests and the NAT shows as open, then if i try again it fails! then i can try again and it passes and the NAT is moderate, so it's clearly not happy with one or two of the router settings. the 360 settings are all set to automatic, listed below are the router settings: ip address:192.168.2.1 subnet mask:255.255.255.0 DHCP server on, ip pool starting address:192.168.2.2, ip pool ending address:192.168.2.4 WAN: dynamic WAN DNS:automatic from isp UPnP:on i have tried the port forwarding as suggested by Groove above, but this doesn't seem to make any difference. help!...

| I doubt it will make a difference, but the pool ending address should be 192.168.2.255. Does the router have DMZ(firewall) or public ip settings?

| Not strictly true, it doesn't need to be 192.168.2.255, it can be whatever you want equal to or above the starting address, the difference between the starting address and the ending one will determine the maximum number of machines that can connect to your network. So it could make a difference in this case if Flan had more than 3 machines he was trying to connect to his network which I presume he hasn't otherwise he wouldn't have set it to 192.168.2.4, well I hope not anyway  . Have you tried stuff like latest firmware etc Flan?

| firmware is up to date, from what sparse information that i have gleaned from 'tinterweb it seems that there could be a specific problem with this router and live, because its so new. i could be reverting back to my trusty old Linksys until this is sorted...
