Well my first 360 has perished 1 year and 5 months it lasted, do i have to send the HDD back with the unit or just the base unit on its own. Thanks.

Just requested a repair and i get this

'Warranty Status: Out of Warranty Repair [145.45 AUD Xbox][120.00 - 6.00 AUD Xbox360 Online discount][64.99 - 3.00 GBP Xbox Online discount][50.99 - 3.00 GBP Xbox360 Online discount'?????

I purchased my 360 in March 2007 and i thought the warranty's were 3 years?

3 years only applies to 3 red lights, other problems are only covered by the usual one year. If it is a 3 red lights problem just confirm they know that it's a warranty repair. The only plus is you don't need to send the hdd or anything else back with it, just the main unit itself.

Well looks like my 360 is on it's way out. My original 360 is still going strong (one of my brothers has it).

It began when I was downloading the Force Unleashed demo and decided to throw Bionic Commando on for a bit while I waited.

It just froze and several re-starts yielded the splash animation freezing after a split second or not even playing at all.

There was also a strange noise being emitted not too disimilar to those hard disk head crashes of the 1990s.

Several more re-starts and three red lights appeared.

I left it and it did eventually start but only for a short while.

This afternoon I started it and it started first go but then it froze when I went to end the Force Unleashed demo.

Several re-starts and it was same pattern as last night.

I did some digging and found an article which revealed the red lights are power supply related.

The suggestion was to ensure the power supply is sufficiently ventilated and also to ensure the transformer is plugged directly into a socket as opposed to an extension. It made particular referece to surge protectors which can sometimes regulate incorrect voltages.

Mine was plugged into a surge protector so I removed it from there and plugged it direct into the wall.

No more strange noise and no crashes since.

But still not holding out much hope it won't go bang on me very soon.
