can anyone help ? please?

operating system: windows xp media edition

problem: internet explorer 7 web browser opens with my home page address at the top but fails to load up the home page - I have a blank white page! In addition to this when I open my favourites folder and click on a link to another site the home page address stays and nothing happens including if I try to go to windows update centre.

I have done several things to try to fix the problem but just cant do it.....

Ive done 3 "restores" at different points upto 4 wk ago when it was working fine but still no joy!

Ive downloaded int exp 7 twice from microsoft and re-installed it twice but still no joy!

Ive tested my connection several times and still no joy.

Im about to throw the dam pc out the f*ing window ! but dont think that'll work either, does anyone know whats wrong ?

I can get on internet using bt yahoo browser which I really dont like using, its ok for a while but I want my ie7 back, lol

any ideas?

cheers...

Pit

have you tried going to tools, internet options, advanced tab, reset internet explorer settings?

That is a strange one - particularly with restore not working. I know this doesn't directly help with your problem but for a temporary solution have you tried using Firefox as your browser - even if you don't prefer it to IE7 for now it at least works in a virtually identical manner

finally got IE7 working again!

I got told to download AVG Anti Virus (free version) and install on pc and to delete any other security suite - I said no as I have Macafee and its been so reliable for last couple of years. Anyway, I did download AVG free version - It found and removed 3 viruses, 2 spyware and had a warning count of 252, all of which had gone undetected to macafee!!!!

the best bit is that internet explorer 7 is now working again as a result of AVG, MACAFEE has been dee - leted and I have also removed firefox browser as 1 of the viruses had come from it.

The person that gave me this gem of information is a network & systems engineer for a huge international company and swears that he has used nothing but AVG (free version) for years and has never once had any viruses. If anyone wants to give it a try just type AVG FREE into your search engine and follow the links to install....Its made by Grisoft I think but its available from download.com.

Good Luck!

cheers...
