UK publisher to unleash a new generation of F1 games across all formats.

Previously a PlayStation-only franchise, Codemasters plans to take full advantage of its expertise in the racing genre and is terming the new F1 titles as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of its line up.

The worldwide deal provides Codemasters with rights to feature all Grand Prix circuits, Formula One teams, cars, and driver likenesses, and marks a return for the franchise after a two year absence.

The FIA Formula One World Champioship games will be developed using an evolution of Codemasters’ existing EGO Game Technology Engine, with the first title expected to emerge in 2009 across the full range of console, handheld and PC formats.

“As a world-leading creator of driving games, this alliance with Formula One is the jewel in Codemasters’ racing crown and creates an undisputed segment champion,” said Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens.

“Formula One has gone with the best, the segment leader. It has gone to the home of the EGO Engine for quality; it has gone to the company that can host Formula 1 Online, to the company that is streaking away from the pack.”

Here's a full interview courtesy of the official F1 website:

Here's an excerpt that should have those wondering how they're going to handle the arcade vs sim marketplace:

"People want to be able to pick up a game, do whatever you do very quickly, post their times up on a leader board and then go off and misbehave elsewhere. We want to be able to offer both things within the game - simulation for the hardcore gamers, but also an arcade experience that you can truly pick up and play. I believe we’ve balanced that in GRID™ and I believe we’re going to balance it in Formula One."

Games List : Assassin's Creed - Beijing 2008 - Bioshock - Chromehounds - Command and Conquer 3 - Command and Conquer 3 : Kane's Wrath - Call of Duty 4 - Conan - Don King's Prize Fighter - Fight Night Round 3 - Forza Motorsport 2 - Flat Out 2 : Ultimate Carnage - Grand Theft Auto IV - GRID - Halo 3 - Lego Indiana Jones : The Original Adventures - Lego Star Wars II : The Original Trilogy - Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II - Marvel Ultimate Alliance - Oblivion - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Project Gotham Racing 4 - Tomb Raider Anniversary - Top Spin 3 - Unreal Tournament 3 - Viking : Battle for Asgard - Universe at War : Earth Assault

a typical "sit on the fence and don't upset anybody" reply, should be a politician. it's all a bit "vague", you can read it either way, it's an arcade game, but then again it's a sim. sounds like they will use the GRiD engine to me, but i have been known to be wrong, occasionaly...

who says you can't polish a turd...
