That super one worked for me, and gets my recommendation as most of the other converters require money or are riddled with viruses.

The Super convertor did it (it doesn't like Vista but worked fine on XP).

another free one is Switch, it converts either way for all the files you can think of, sorry i havn't got a url for you but google it...

Try this Kev its meant to convert anything to anything. Haven't tried it but it comes recommended, and its free.

I have an .MP4 file I wish to convert to .WMV

I know there are products I can get to do it - but this is a one-off and I don't want to have to spend cash on a product I will only use the once.

The trial versions of what I've found only do partial conversions of the file - anyone happen to know a free convertor or a trial version that works on number of files converted rather than letting you do unlimited partial conversions?
