My router has a document problem with opening one of the Live ports - I have my 360 in the DMZ which should render this a moot problem.

I own a basic Netgear el-cheapo which does the job I guess but I'd rather be able to make my NAT Open without using the DMZ.

My brother is running a Netgear of vastly superior speed but isn't on "the list" - I'd like to go wireless as much as possible so which is the definitive router for me to upgrade to?

Been using a Netgear DG834G for about 1.5 years now and cant fault it. Xbox hardwired home PC and laptop via wireless. Totally plug and play apart from setting up WEP

Before that had a linksys with lots of problems.

cheers

I am running on Virgin Media DSL (ex Telewest).

I actually have my 360 wired - I have a laptop and a printer connected wirelessly however.

I cannot host games unless my 360 goes in the DMZ.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GC after going back to cable after continuous problems on ADSL. Was unsure about a Linksys as the last one I had on ADSL was nothing but trouble and got changed very quickly, but this one has been great, pretty cheap and small too.

If there was something negative to say about it, the only thing I could say is it doesn't have the modem built in so you still need your existing modem to plug it into, not really a big deal, but after being used to all in one solutions for ADSL this isn't as tidy, Yer I know I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel here , but I haven't had any issues with it.

My 360 is wired to the router, the wireless is used for PC and laptop, which is similar to your setup now I've re-read it properly .

That router looks ideal especially the price

Same as I used (until xmas).

2 years, no problems.

360 in the DMZ though (why would it matter either way, XBL is a closed loop anyway).

Depends on the router but you dont have to worry about closed ports if your 360 is in the DMZ. Usually makes your more conectable with other users. Remembering it leading to certian users not being able to connect to each other or not being able to hear each other in games.

* I use a buffollo, keep the 360 in the DMZ easiest way for me to get the NAT thing open.

I got a router which has allowed me to open the ports and have an Open NAT without the DMZ so happy days.

I realise it's okay to have the 360 in the DMZ but still don't like the idea of it.
