does anybody have experience with RSS feeds. the entire forum generates them so it would not be hard to create a dynamic front page thats looks like the original template.

In what way are you trying to incoporate the RSS feed into the front page? For example, are you trying to link recent post information and the such like?

pretty much yeah,

http://www.myxbox.co.uk//RssFeed3-0-0-1.aspx

etc.

That's a fairly easy process, all things considered. There are a hundred and one websites out there that detail in plain English how to dynamically display RSS feed information on a website.

Here are some examples:

http://www.zend.com/zend/spotlight/code-gallery-wade6.php

http://www.feedforall.com/displaying-rss.htm

http://www.elixirsystems.com/seo_tips/rss_feeds_website_consuming.php

If if gets a little complicated, feel free to get in touch and I'll take a look at it. I haven't written any HTML or any other code for a couple of years now, but from reading those websites above, it shouldn't take too much playing around with.

Cheers for the links, never though of making use of the RSS feed, doh, although it can't quite do everything we originally wanted to do, with a bit of scripting we should be sorted. Done some initial testing and looking good, hopefully we'll have something put together soon.

So much for using the feeds, would have been nice and simple had it not been for the fact that the forum feeds don't work properly which means I'd have to do a lot of extra coding to use them. Will have to go back to extracting stuff direct from the database but will aim to get some kind of front page up as soon as possible, then we can add to it as and when.

Aye, I can change the sort order of the forum, but unfortunately it makes sod all difference to the feed which still displays it in the order it wants to (ie: by last post), which is dumb. Dumber still is the calendar where the date of an actual event doesn't even get extracted into the feed. Shoddy.
