There are a lot of myxbox members that are also clan members elsewhere so would it be worth putting a small sub section for clan talk (under xbox live maybe) where we could chat and arrange clan games between myxbox members maybe. Would be a good way off getting new members from clans that we have some people in and could help the same clans recruit new clan members also.

With how difficult arranging games has been lately it may just be enough to get enough people together and make new friends at the same time.

i think your right pirre m8 is to set aside 1 night where we all can chat and have a few games in a structured way ,that everyone knows for instants that say mon is graw where we can air view or ideas about making the community grow and get a few rounds in too

Some great ideas, but we don't seem to be able to put in the work. Sunday Live got us playing together, but when I moved house it stopped dead, I feel that Chas and myself where the only ones that kept the resurection going and as I've got more traveling to get back from work now it would be very unlikely that I could keep it going myself.

Maybe we should take a leaf out off Tartan Terrors book, they get together on a monday night and play COD2 every week. Keeps the clan members playing together and gives a chance to talk about anything that is going on i.e. next clan game. I think GRAW would be a better game to choose for us, especially as co-op games seem to allow eight players now.

I agree with rationalising the forums, too many sub-forums, which only helps to dilute the whole site spreading it too thinly.

i do think that ARcade and Marketplace deserve a joint forum as they seem to be popular with everyone.

as for the "help" section, how about "Help the Aged"? (only kidding!), no seriously, "Tech FAQ's", "Tech Spec" or "Tecchie Spec" are my suggestions..."...who's that groaning from the back?..."

personally I think the whole 360 thing should be dropped. There is only one xbox not much life left in the earlier machine anways. thread title will make things clear which model we are talking about.

Tourny chat should stay its not about keeping that part of the board busy its about keeing tourney chat out of the other parts of the board.

Like the idea of the "Ask myxbox" type forum, any suggestions for a good name for it?

I always preferred the Tournaments forum in the Community section just as a kind of subtle re-affirmation that they were for community members, but it is probably too subtle and maybe it would be better off moved. Anybody else with some input on this?

Just to add, the reason why I thought it would be good to merge hardware and software is because the hardware forum is fairly inactive with only three active threads in the last month and only six in the last two months. It's you call on this one though, so keep it and keep an eye on it .

Or....just to throw another spanner in the works, most of the posts in the hardware forum are queries. How do I connect my 360 to a HDTV or how do I go online, etc. What do you think about changing the forum to an 'Ask the Forum' forum, where anyone can ask queries about the 360? It could be questions like hardware queries or how to get a certain achievement or is X title from Japan multi-region, etc.

Good point about the tournaments forum and I agree with you on this. What do you think about its position though? It looks a bit lost in the middle of the community section. As it's about games, would it be better in the console section? It seems strange to have tournaments in one section and game arrangements in another, as they're both about community and games. Or alternatively move it to the top of community area where it is most prominant.

Yeah I can see that top section would be redundant really, although personally I think that may be a bit too drastic having hardware and games discussion all mixed in together.

My only other concern would be the as yet unused Tournaments forum. That's one forum where I think keeping the topic specific at the expense of activity is a good thing so that any activie threads would primarliy be connected with any current tournaments or tournaments in planning that won't get lost amongst any other discussion and not need to end up pinning a load of threads which would kind of defeat the purpose and look messy as well.

Again purely my own opinion, feel free to discuss. But going on what I've just said I would suggest the following:

I must admit, I was thinking something a bit more drastic. I don't see the need for seperate 360 and original XBox forums, most of us have both machines or at least backwards compatibility.

Plus I think game discussion and reviews should be combined as there is lots of crossover. I also think if you combined the Live forum with tournaments, all the places to meet people will be in one place.

I've got rid of the Xbox News & Xbox Reviews, combined Xbox Console and Games into one and got rid of PC News which can go in PC General chat and PC Technical which can be included in General PC Chat. Hopefully the as of yet unused Tournaments forum will soon start to get some use.

Just a question as to whether or not to include a seperate forum for XLA & marketplace, on thinking about it maybe we can do without for the time being and look at it again when things pick up a bit.

unfortunately the world cup is eating up most of my time at the moment, as i'm sure it is affecting you guys a s well.

summer is a notoriously bad time for us, it allways has been, a dearth of games, little extra content (altho' COD2 maps arrive this week) and the arcade section is stagnant, despite the promise of poker and pacman.

i think we peaked with the LAN party, and i've said this before and others have too, we are getting older, our leisure time is divided up in so many small chunks that devoting time to Live is becoming harder. most of us have family/worktime commitments (lucky b@stards who dont!).

if we could harness the energy behind the LAN and get some sort of meeting going again (not neccesarily on the scale of the LAN) then i think we might be heading in the right direction, if only to just familiarise ourselves again.

this probably is'nt a forward thinking post, but its just my humble opinion...

Thanks again for all the comments so far.

To summarise everything that's been said the main points appear to be:

Get some new members.
Encourage existing members to play more together through..

more effective communication (MSN Messenger, IRC, Xbox Live Messenger through console or website, plus the website itself)
organised games
tournaments both internally and against other sites or external competitions

Consolidate the forums, so that we don't have dead and unused forums - although possibly add a forum for the growing number of Xbox Live Arcade games and other Marketplace content?

I think that some of the other things mentioned will happen as a natural progression from attaining more active members, not that that's the only answer of course, we need to be doing things to make the site more appealing and encourage members to be more active. I know arranging a few events has been tried in the past but they nenver really worked so we gave up, I think maybe if we tried again but stuck at it then hopefully gradually people will drift back and get back in the habit of playing together again.

The first step in this as I see it is to try and start arranging some games together. We've got the game of CoD on Friday and Fridays always used to be our main night, so maybe we should try and get something going every Friday if possible. Plus if you know you're gonna be on Live a certain night why not post and see if you can get a game going.

Maybe we could have a go at arranging some tournaments too, nothing too heavy at first, maybe a knockout for one of the 1v1 games or a one off night playing one game with an eventual winner crowned. Anyone up for organising something please let me know.

This is purely my own opinion of course and should not be seen as anything definite. feel free to discuss further.

I'm gonna start a couple of new threads on specific things mentioned, the website and a good conduct guide so post your thoughts there too please once they're up.

There are too many forums, but as to how to merge them hmm.... Perhaps there could be a general 'old skool' forum for xbox related stuff with most of the 360 forums remaining, oh and how about a seperate xbla forum or market place forum?

As to the other items, I always have a great evening playing when I hook up with the myxbox croud unfortunately they are rare for me because I just don't get a lot of time at the moment. If people 'bulk' messaged more often then it could be a good idea, perhaps a couple of people could set up a silver 'myxbox' account and send out friends requests so they could just message myxbox people rather than everyone on the list, or it may be able to be done using a weblink populating the to list on a message?

Nice thread Chas .

I think when Live Anywhere arrives, it will be much easier. Then you'll be able to send messages to people who are using PCs, to their mobile phones and even the their work. You'll be able to see who is around on your friends list, not just who has their 360 switched on.

In the meantime, we need an alternative. That coudl be irc or it could be messenger or something else entirely, but I think we should all agree on one thing so we can arrange games. That way, when we go online, we'll know that there will be at least 3 other people happy to play games that night, rather than the current sitution where you switch the 360 on and it's pot luck.

I like the idea of using the 360 message system too, especially as you can now do it from your PC. If I fancy some online gamage tonight, I could send all you lot a text message so you'll know exactly when I'll be on. So you could join (or avoid) me as you please.

The other thing is, don't forget the 360 chat function. Although I am completely guilty of Oblivion sucking up my time, I did sometimes chat with other players whilst playing. This extends that community spirit that this site has so much potential for.

What about a kind of good conduct guide? I don't want to make things too formal, but I think we should all agree that if you're sent an invite and you can't make it/want to play solo then you should at least message the person who invited you.

Finally (phew) what does everyone think about the number of forums? I think there might be too many. Some of the forums go weeks without a post and I'm thinking this doesn't stimulate people to put further posts. What do you think about merging some of the forums together?

That actually was a good idea. But after a while, it did start to show that nobody used it when it was pretty much just me and SK talking in the channel. I'd be willing to try and get that going again if people want to try that out again.

Haven't we tried the public games and tournaments which were on the Xbox.com calendar? Do you guys think it's worth trying that again? I didn't have my 360 at the time, so I don't really know how well that all went.

Though I still think the main issue is that we don't play against each other enough. It's been god knows how long since I've played on Live against anybody, let alone you guys.

Anyone remember those MSN Live alerts, anybody know what going on with them? Because I remember the mass invites by everybody and then they'd pop up on MSN, and that's when some people would pop on Live.

Perhaps we can exploit the use of the private match feature in certain games so that only members of the forum could join them and post the date of these arranged matchs on a members only area of the site. This could possibly act as an incentive to get the mebership up as everyday I see a huge number of guests looking at the forum, but few join.

The problem overtime for us has been that lack of games arranged that people can look forward to, consequently people rely on their friends list to see what people are playing, and there just hasn't been that many of us online.

The ideal situation would be that everyone just logged into live if they were free, and then we could get something going, but its a bit of a chicken and egg scenario, as people don't usually come on unless they see people playing something they want to play. I'm as guilty of this as the next guy.

I guess if we started using the messaging through Live to just text everyone that you were thinking of setting something up that evening etc may have some effect.

Tournaments sound like a good idea, as does the thought of creating teams and entering them into competitions.

Personally, I think we need some more gaming sessions together. As Chas pointed out one evening, Oblivion pretty much wiped out online play during the two months it was released. But now we have a cracking list that's sure to grow of games that we can all indulge in, such as G.R.A.W, Uno, Perfect Dark Zero and, hopefully soon, Streetfighter 2.

My suggestion for this community would be to consider revamping the site so that it encapsulates a wider variety. Currently, it's just a forum, so why not try and broaden it into a fully-fledged website covering all aspects of the Xbox and the 360, targetted at the current audience? There's already a Microsoft recommendation to visit this site, so why not utilise that by grabbing people when they first click the link?

Although there are many gaming websites out there, there are very little that cater for those of us who don't talk like teh_Ownerer from Pure Pwanage...
