Really not sure about the MP, I think it could be a great game but it's spoilt by the implementation.

The lack of control over what server you end up on is a big problem, the lag kinda kills it. You at least should be able to limit searches by country to try and lessen the risk if they're still gonna insist on not allowing private lobbies. As dante said though more people doesn't always make a better game. Like him I'd much prefer to have smaller numbers and it at least be playable rather than large numbers with lag.

The fact that you can create a squad before you go into a game but if you don't have a full compliment of 4 you could end up with some random in the squad and you can't invite other players/friends to your squad once you get in a game, whether they're in the same game or not, which is very clumsy and defeats the point of trying to get a group of friends together (It has to be said Frontlines did this so much simpler and better).

Jury is still out for me though, I will persist at least for the time being until I've got to grips with the game a bit more. It has potential, unfortunately for me it just doesn't quite realise it, although I accept that different people want different things out of a game so some people won't be bothered or as worried about the same things as me. But for me it's always been as much about the people you play with as the game itself. IMO you can have far more fun on a crap game with the right people as a great game in complete silence/lag/trash talking teammates.

Just my own personal opinion of course.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

hi Nick, long time no see...BF is not a patch on COD4, in my opinion. it realy is too much run and gun, lets get in the tank/helicopter as quick as we can, type of gameplay. plus there is the ever present enemy shows up as red, which i presume is there for the retarded yanks...

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

hey all,

long time no speak etc...

I got BF:BC and got to say it's good fun. But you can do when you blow up the two points, as soon as you do the location they were in becomes your new base and the front line moves forward. The areas surround the map itself are in red because if they werent you would run off into the desert...

BF isnt about stealth, its about wave after wave of soldiers shooting and blowing stuff up. The vehicles usually out balance things, but ive not really experienced it as much as BF2, and especially not as much as Frontlines.

Also, to that extent, if you use team work and gadgets, tanks and helis are just huge targets. (ok the first 30 mins was trying to discover the controls and what the concept of the game was). At first glance it does look nice with the various vehicles (including the helicopter) being a nice touch to the game play.

With the maps being so big i thought it was going to be like that Frontlines MP game demo, which i got tired of walking around not getting anywhere quickly. But this has a nice twist to it with the choice of either respawning in the the starting area to reclaim a new tank, or spawn near your team mates.

I loved the concept of things actually being destroyed makes it more interesting when you lose the sniper points.

At the moment i have still got several shooters to play with and need a bloody good reason to buy this one.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

one pre-order cancelled, i know it's horses for courses and each man to his own, but in my opinion this game is sh1te, i've tried, the destroyable environment is good but it's not for me, maybe if they could steal it for the next installment of COD, unless its like COD3 which was sh1te as well. i'll stick to COD4 for now, still plenty of playability for me in that...

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

no prone aswell on bfbc and as flan said wots point in stealth if you have a readybrek glow around you for all to see mbe in full game the host can turn that shit off.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

FLAN uk (05/06/2008)
lets hope EA's servers are robust enough to cope with the demand, otherwise a lot of people will be cancelling their pre-orders.
when's COD5 due out...

Oh dear that says it all EA servers , i think all ea games have trouble with the online side of things
As for COD 5 it around november time so not to long to wait
I tried the demo today just single player and tbh i was not that impressed i thought BF2 on pc looks and plays a lot better but then what do i know , i have just been playing lego indiana jones and i think it is exellent (i also liked the starsky and hutch film)

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

FLAN uk (05/06/2008)
i know where my money will be going. now, when's COD5 due out...

You will hate it, its being made by Treyarch.

Forgot the demo is out today - shall be downloading when I get home and had a few well earned beers and foods!

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

to be fair to the game Smilar it played smooth before the general release of the demo today. it's a pretty popular franchise so i imagine a lot of people trying to play it today. i too noticed it was laggy today, virtualy unplayable, lets hope EA's servers are robust enough to cope with the demand, otherwise a lot of people will be cancelling their pre-orders.

on the gameplay side i'm starting to get realy p1$$ed off with the fact that you can't use any stealth what so ever in this game, whats the point of having the "readybreak" glow even when you are hiding behind walls? tanks can see you, snipers can see you, everyone can see you! are Battlefield players realy that bad sighted/dim that they need to be shown where the enemy are? there may as well be no buildings or structures in the game as they are totaly useless. for christ's sake, give gamers some credit and make the game a little more realistic, there is no element of surpise at all when you know where everyone is, as far as i'm concerned this is a major flaw in this franchise and is steering me away from buying this as snipers sit right at the back of the map and can see you from miles away. if it's a choice between destroyable environments or sneaking up on people i know where my money will be going. now, when's COD5 due out...

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

great demo till u play online fekin laggy crap cancelled me preorder till i see a smooth running finished product was unplayable online tbh

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

I knew that the buildings and cars can all be destroyed in real time, rather than specific destructive patterns, and with the trees, but if the ground can be too, then that could be interesting when someone tries to run over you in a jeep

Not sure the ranking up in demo through to full game is entirely wise, but we will see.

And odd you should use the word "prophetic" to describe something me...I mean, with the hair and beard I could almost be Jesus' better looking, 2000 year younger brother.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

what SJ? COD4 was good once, but now I dont fancy playing the run and gun, throw grenade at certain part of sky games, where you shouldnt shoot for fear of your position being perminantly on a small map.

Will be getting BF regardless of what the community is doing as I loved BF2 and if its more of the same but you can destroy everything, that makes it a million times better than COD.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

It sounds quite good fun , quite a nice touch carrying youre ranking over to the full game. Hopefully i'll be able to try the demo out with some myxboxers online to get a feel for it. Thats if you can host youre own games in the demo??

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

a nice feature of the demo is that any ranking up you do will be taken into the full game, so you will keep any weapons you have unlocked. gives you an incentive to play it.

lets face it MG, COD4 is the benchmark shooter, it has stood the test of time and still being played by almost all on my friends list, the new maps were very good, the one average one being Killhouse, which correct me if i'm wrong, is a rehash of an old R6 map, odd that. can't see that many on my friends list playing R6V or GRAW, the statistics don't lie. but it's all a matter of opinion of course, and mine is that Battlefield Bad Company is inferior in many aspects to either COD4 or GRAW...

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

Enemies appear as red on your screen when you have seen them for more than a couple of seconds, which is (uh oh) is on GRAW.

BF2 was absolutly fantastic and was my first Xbox Live game, so I have fond memories and it cant be beaten for the domination games. The only downside is the helicopter races - where everyone tries to go for it, doesnt use it properly or one team manages to steal the others as well as use their own, so its one sided. It was worse in Frontlines, but the spawning system in BF2 was better and hopefully will be better still in Bad Company.

Ive been waiting for this game for ages, so hopefully the demo will confirm that ive been waiting for something good.

I also wish that people would get over COD because it was good, and I really enjoyed playing it, but come on...its far past its use by date. The games arent different, and you know pretty much exactly how every game will play out, the new maps that would breathe new life into the game were a total dissapointment.

Of course though, im sure that it will be compared to every shooter from now until forever, the further on in time it goes the more rose tinted the glasses become.

RE: Battlefield: Bad Company

ok, lets get it out of the way, this is NO COD4 beater/rival, it's a totaly different sort of shooter. if your into realism then do not read on. lets face it, GRAW is the connosieurs choice when it comes to putting a cap in someones ass, followed closely by COD4, if you want it a bit more frenetic, but the Battlefield series is very in your face.

i played the single player demo and it has all the usual objective scenarios to complete if you want to finish the mission. you can get into and drive any vehicle/helicopter you come across, and you can switch positions in the said vehicles to either drive, be a passenger or mount the guns. you can destroy absolutely everything, buildings, vehicles even the ground can be deformed, leaving huge craters to hide in. there's no more hiding behind walls or sandbags, they can be blown up as well, leaving a unique battlefield every time you play.

on line it supports 20 players, everything you can do in single player is copied in the multiplayer element, all vehicles and buildings/structures are destroyable, hell, you can even chop down trees with your M16 if you want! theres something quite satisfying levelling some palm trees with your favoured machine gun. the action is very hectic, as you can imagine with 20 players in the mix. there is only one game type in the demo which is one side attack while the other side have to defend gold crates. when you die you can either spawn at your spawn point, close to vehicles, half way down the map, or, if your squad has advanced enough, with your squad, putting you right in the thick of the action. your team gets randomly broken up into smaller squads, so if you do choose to spawn with them you dont get everyone spawning en-masse in the same place.

theres plenty of weapons to choose from, but you are limited as to which you can choose until you unlock them by levelling up, which is similar to the COD4 method, the more kills/headshots/vehicles/bases you get, the higher your rank.

it's very confusing when you first join the action because it is so fast paced and you havn't got a clue what to do, but you soon get the hang of where to go on the quite large maps. detail is very good, the smoke effects are quite impressive as is the lighting. the destroyable buildings and environment certainly adds to the game.

it doesn't run anywhere near as smooth as COD4, the animation seems to be a little jerky, the charachters are nicely rendered, as are the buildings and vehicles, but it just doesn't feel as fluid as the aforementioned COD4.

first impressions are that if you liked the previous Battlefield games then you will love this, the minor gripe for me still remains in the series, that your enemies show up as red on the screen, not just on the radar, so you know exactly where they are which makes it all too easy to spot them and for them to spot you, there seems no point in hiding or sniping, as you can be seen. i can't see the point in that, or if it can be toggled off by the host. i'm not sure if the destroyable environment is enough to make me buy this as the action is very fast paced, theres no stealthin it at all, it's deffinitely a more arcade style game than COD4 or GRAW...

Battlefield: Bad Company

i saw this too late to post last night but Play.com were giving away a code to download the Battlefield: Bad Company demo today, before general release on thursday, if you pre-ordered the game. got my code today and downloded it, i'll let you know what i think later.

i wasn't interested in this but after seeing some videos on the destructability of everything in the game i became intrigued. if they can pull it off as the videos say this could breath new life into the shooter gendre. i just hope they don't make it too light hearted, as the trailer suggests...
