For those of you not about at the time we used to have a fully featured website as well as the old forums, but the feeling was that it made the place too disjointed and a lot of the features that were on the site just weren't being used because community members naturally gravitated towards the forums first. We were always primarily a community of gamers, the website came later but because we already lived on the forums it never really worked.

So the last time we had a makeover, just prior to the 360 launch was to do away with all that and basically run everything through the forums, but have a front end with sections for Xbox 360, Xbox and PC where stuff from the appropriate forums and such things as the calendar would be pulled onto those pages.

Unfortunately for various reasons this part of the development never actually happened, although in recent weeks Reign Mack has been working on the template but it now needs cobbling together, nick72 is a bit busy at the moment so I'm not sure when that will happen, unless we have any other asp.net coders amongst us, I'm not that confident in .net to really undertake doing it myself.

Any thoughts or .net coders lurking out there who are able to help?

Maybe if you just made a front end for the forums? I'm not so sure if a full-blow website is needed, for the reviews and such I mean because, well lets face it we can't compete with the likes of Gamespot and IGN can we?

The only thing that is slightly off putting is if you put the URL in and you come straight to a forum, maybe just a simple page, explaining what myxbox is all about would be nice to start with? Containing a link to the forums, and maybe some information about any tournaments or whatever is going on at that time?

Sounds a good idea, just a very simple front page.

BTW: this new section isn't included in the posts since my last visit search.

I always thought this was a site with a good front page. Like us, it is just a forum.

does anybody have experience with RSS feeds. the entire forum generates them so it would not be hard to create a dynamic front page thats looks like the original template.

Nice idea of having a front page even if we haven't got everything else sorted out on how to pull the news etc into it. At least we could have a bit about the site, who we cater for, forum guidelines etc etc.

I'll have a look at using the RSS feeds too, there's probably some scripts out there we could use/convert.

Great ideas, cheers.

In what way are you trying to incoporate the RSS feed into the front page? For example, are you trying to link recent post information and the such like?

i second(third? fourth??) that idea of having a front page, it will give us an identity, as a forum is just a forum, just a collective, a bit like the Borg.

you will be assimilated...

who says you can't polish a turd...
