| | Got an e-mail from ShopTo saying my order has been processed - I ordered it weeks ago though - I guess they're picking them very soon then. Looking forward to it although having spent some time with the G25 wheel on my PC, the Microsoft wheel on the 360 has very flimsy pedals now

| | I'll most likely be trading in a few old games for this game. But it would be nice to hear Chas's and Fezza's thoughts on the game (Thats if they are allowed to speak about the game yet?). It would nice to be able to get back online with a you guys again, especially on a enjoyable game. Quick Question: How to do you get invited to these sorts of events ?. ( Me gets ready for some sarcy comments ). I do hope it doesnt involve sucking any golf balls threw garden hoses

| Sorry been a bit busy, mainly avoiding the rain over the weekend and beyond due to kids hols etc... As some of you know Fezza and myself played the series to death and would play the series long after just about everyone else had moved on to other games. We even dusted off the old Xbox from time to time well after the 360's release just so we could play it due to there being no backward compatibility. So when this game approached final release and a demo was released, you can imagine we were both chomping at the bit to get our hands on it. After all the waiting when the demo finally appeared, to be honest I felt a little underwhelemd even though I knew I would end up buying it anyway, too much history with the series to just let it pass me by. So last Friday we got the opportunity to try out the full game for ourselves and I have to say that I'm really looking forward to playing this game again now. Fezza playing on the George Foreman version - We did mainly play the 360 version honest, although all formats were there and looking pretty much the same. One thing you do get from the demo is the game looks fantastic and the presentation is extremely slick. The damage model especially, not that you really notice most of the time if you use bonet cam like me, but when you do flip to an outside view or watch the replay I did sometimes find myself surprised at how damaged, crumpled and generally mangled the car got at times, especially so because of course my driving was so fantastic . In career mode you start off with a basic car which you can use in a limited number of events, I think in total it was one event to be precise, but it wasn't too hard to do well and start earning some money which in turn allows you to buy more cars for other race classes with the ultimate intention of taking your own team to the top. The tie in with ebay rears its head here as you can go for a new model or see if there's a cheaper secondhand Buy It Now option available on the auction site, but watch out for cars that have high mileage or have been in a number of accidents. You could also drive for other teams for some quick cash if needed without then having to worry about affording cars. As you start doing well you will get sponsors on board who will give you bonuses for completing seconday objectives, like winning races, beating certain competitors or teams. You also have a simplified version of the Forza car editor where you can change colours and the positions of your sponsors logos. The Race Driver series always had a kind of story mode for the single player and I've always found it a lot more engrossing than lets just put you in another car on the same track but with a lot more laps, even though that possibly does happen, but the way the game makes you feel in control of your own destiny is quite clever and feels much more rewarding. There's also a Race Day mode where you can try out different cars and tracks without bothering with the story mode. By the look of it though the number of cars were limited, I'm presuming that you would need to play through the story mode to make other cars available in this mode. It did also give us our first taste, as Fezza has already mentioned, of the Destruction Derby mode with the figure of 8 tracks. Maybe a bit of a surprise inclusion but I can see it becoming a firm favourite after some more serious battles, especially with the very detailed graphics and damage model. Open wheel fun at Donnington. Let me say from the outset that people will probably still complain about the handling, but let's face it people will always find something to complain about in every game no matter how good it is. I even heard some people have even dared to criticise Halo 3, the best game ever made. How dare they!!! But after my brief foray into the new game, I have to say I really started enjoying it again. No, the handling won't be for everyone, but with some of the car and track combinations the game is sublime. Again, as Fezza has mentioned, racing the open wheel cars around Spa for instance was just a lot of fun. I think the game will be a lot like the previous versions, it'll be a case of finding the right car and track combinations that work really well together. Who can forget the Formula Fords round Oulton Park, or the GT Lights, or the Leon Cupras at Donnington - Ok probably most of you, but they were combinations that I used to love in the old game that were always a lot of fun to drive and always produced some great racing and I think we'll find similar combinations in this game that will give us a similarly rewarding experience. There was a multiplayer Lan game set up on the PC, but I didn't get to play on that so my comments are based purely around the single player experience. Let's just hope the netcode holds up and the patch they mentioned appears quickly, not that people reversing on the start line etc should be a problem in private games. So overall then, my faith has been restored and I can't wait to play the full game, which just so happens to have turned up in the post today courtesy of shopto.net, so why the hell I'm here posting this instead of playing I don't know - the sacrifices I make. So you can probably expect a retraction of everything I've said very soon. Oh and I also picked up a couple of GRID T shirts at the event which unfortunately aren't fat bastard size so won't fit me so I'll give away in a suitably difficult competition soon.

| | yeh, nice one Chas, my copy duly arrived courtesy of the postie and ShopTo.net this morning, i even went home for "early lunch" and was greeted by the missus who had a spare morning due to the grandfather taking the kids on the chuffa train, so she was doing the ironing while watching the TV, bloody typical!!! so i'll have to wait to squeeze a session in tonight. i only hope that a good number of us get this and people like SK are tempted onto live, as he's an honest driver who puts his hand up to mistakes, it's the ignorant ba$tards who just clatter you off the track without so much of a word that ruin racers like GRiD, you know the "win at all costs" type, who generaly end up wrecking thier car anyway, not realising that if someone is infront of them they don't have the god given right to barge past. i'm ranting now and i havn't even played the game yet! i need to sit in a quiet dark corner...
