| | i saw this too late to post last night but Play.com were giving away a code to download the Battlefield: Bad Company demo today, before general release on thursday, if you pre-ordered the game. got my code today and downloded it, i'll let you know what i think later. i wasn't interested in this but after seeing some videos on the destructability of everything in the game i became intrigued. if they can pull it off as the videos say this could breath new life into the shooter gendre. i just hope they don't make it too light hearted, as the trailer suggests...

| | ok, lets get it out of the way, this is NO COD4 beater/rival, it's a totaly different sort of shooter. if your into realism then do not read on. lets face it, GRAW is the connosieurs choice when it comes to putting a cap in someones ass, followed closely by COD4, if you want it a bit more frenetic, but the Battlefield series is very in your face. i played the single player demo and it has all the usual objective scenarios to complete if you want to finish the mission. you can get into and drive any vehicle/helicopter you come across, and you can switch positions in the said vehicles to either drive, be a passenger or mount the guns. you can destroy absolutely everything, buildings, vehicles even the ground can be deformed, leaving huge craters to hide in. there's no more hiding behind walls or sandbags, they can be blown up as well, leaving a unique battlefield every time you play. on line it supports 20 players, everything you can do in single player is copied in the multiplayer element, all vehicles and buildings/structures are destroyable, hell, you can even chop down trees with your M16 if you want! theres something quite satisfying levelling some palm trees with your favoured machine gun. the action is very hectic, as you can imagine with 20 players in the mix. there is only one game type in the demo which is one side attack while the other side have to defend gold crates. when you die you can either spawn at your spawn point, close to vehicles, half way down the map, or, if your squad has advanced enough, with your squad, putting you right in the thick of the action. your team gets randomly broken up into smaller squads, so if you do choose to spawn with them you dont get everyone spawning en-masse in the same place. theres plenty of weapons to choose from, but you are limited as to which you can choose until you unlock them by levelling up, which is similar to the COD4 method, the more kills/headshots/vehicles/bases you get, the higher your rank. it's very confusing when you first join the action because it is so fast paced and you havn't got a clue what to do, but you soon get the hang of where to go on the quite large maps. detail is very good, the smoke effects are quite impressive as is the lighting. the destroyable buildings and environment certainly adds to the game. it doesn't run anywhere near as smooth as COD4, the animation seems to be a little jerky, the charachters are nicely rendered, as are the buildings and vehicles, but it just doesn't feel as fluid as the aforementioned COD4. first impressions are that if you liked the previous Battlefield games then you will love this, the minor gripe for me still remains in the series, that your enemies show up as red on the screen, not just on the radar, so you know exactly where they are which makes it all too easy to spot them and for them to spot you, there seems no point in hiding or sniping, as you can be seen. i can't see the point in that, or if it can be toggled off by the host. i'm not sure if the destroyable environment is enough to make me buy this as the action is very fast paced, theres no stealthin it at all, it's deffinitely a more arcade style game than COD4 or GRAW...

| Enemies appear as red on your screen when you have seen them for more than a couple of seconds, which is (uh oh) is on GRAW.
BF2 was absolutly fantastic and was my first Xbox Live game, so I have fond memories and it cant be beaten for the domination games. The only downside is the helicopter races - where everyone tries to go for it, doesnt use it properly or one team manages to steal the others as well as use their own, so its one sided. It was worse in Frontlines, but the spawning system in BF2 was better and hopefully will be better still in Bad Company.
Ive been waiting for this game for ages, so hopefully the demo will confirm that ive been waiting for something good.
I also wish that people would get over COD because it was good, and I really enjoyed playing it, but come on...its far past its use by date. The games arent different, and you know pretty much exactly how every game will play out, the new maps that would breathe new life into the game were a total dissapointment.
Of course though, im sure that it will be compared to every shooter from now until forever, the further on in time it goes the more rose tinted the glasses become.

Whatever was mentioned in the previous post, just remember...it isnt as good as COD4 is it.

| | a nice feature of the demo is that any ranking up you do will be taken into the full game, so you will keep any weapons you have unlocked. gives you an incentive to play it. lets face it MG, COD4 is the benchmark shooter, it has stood the test of time and still being played by almost all on my friends list, the new maps were very good, the one average one being Killhouse, which correct me if i'm wrong, is a rehash of an old R6 map, odd that. can't see that many on my friends list playing R6V or GRAW, the statistics don't lie. but it's all a matter of opinion of course, and mine is that Battlefield Bad Company is inferior in many aspects to either COD4 or GRAW...

Youre wrong.
Its just got the same name as a map, which is a military term for a training house for CQC. I cant see one company remaking a map from another, can you?
Personally, if people are willing to keep playing the same game for going on a year, more fool them. Ive got better things to do and better games to play. COD4 was good once, but now I dont fancy playing the run and gun, throw grenade at certain part of sky games, where you shouldnt shoot for fear of your position being perminantly on a small map.
Will be getting BF regardless of what the community is doing as I loved BF2 and if its more of the same but you can destroy everything, that makes it a million times better than COD.

only if you play it in girly mode, which I suppose you might have done as you have girly hair but the rest of us played it hardcore - they do still light up the map after a few seconds in line of sight, but you don't get the big red "i'm over here, shoot me because you're obviously too thick to try and work it out for yourself" target that appeared round the actual enemy and if this has got it and can't be switched off I have my doubts about getting it, I don't need to be treated like an idiot, I have more than enough friends and family that do that anyway .
